Xinhua News Agency, Baghdad, November 24 (Reporter Bai Ping) The Human Rights Committee of the Iraqi Parliament said on the 24th that six people were killed and 158 injured in demonstrations and protests in Basra and Zigar provinces in southern Iraq.
The Committee issued a statement saying that on the same day, Iraqi security forces and demonstrators clashed fiercely in Basra and Dhi Qar provinces, resulting in three deaths and 87 injuries in Basra province and three deaths and 71 injuries in Dhi Qar province.
The Committee called on demonstrators to demonstrate in designated areas to avoid any conflict with the security forces.
Since October, demonstrations and protests have broken out in many places in Iraq to protest against government corruption, poor service and high unemployment rate. Iraqi President Saleh announced on October 31 that the authorities are working on a new election law and reorganizing the election commission. After the relevant work is completed, he will approve the early election.
