Xinhua News Agency, Chengdu, October 4th (Reporter Zhang Chaoqun) October 4th is the 87th World Animal Day. Baoxing County, Sichuan Province is the core area of Sichuan Giant Panda Habitat, a world natural heritage, where there is a "royal" photographer of wild giant pandas.
More than 140 years ago, the French missionary Armand David introduced the giant panda to the world in Baoxing, Sichuan, which is also known as the "hometown of pandas".
According to the fourth national giant panda survey, as of 2015, there were 181 wild giant pandas in Baoxing County. In the "Pilot Program of Giant Panda National Park System" approved in early 2017, 92.8% of Baoxing’s geographical area is classified as a national park, which is the county with the highest proportion of the area classified as a giant panda national park.
The "royal" photographer of the wild giant panda also grew up in the "hometown of pandas" and was named Gao Huakang.
Gao Huakang, 60, was born in Fengtongzhai Township, Baoxing County. In 1980, the newly established Fengtongzhai Nature Reserve began to recruit people. Since then, he has become a staff member of the reserve, and has forged a lifelong fate with forests and giant pandas.
He can track wild giant pandas in the vast virgin forest, and can distinguish the physical condition of wild animals from the marks such as feces and bite marks. Over the past 30 years, he has photographed nearly 40 wild giant pandas.
In 1983, bamboo bloomed in many places in Sichuan, and once it bloomed, it would die. At that time, 95% cold arrow bamboo bloomed in Baoxing, and the bamboo forest turned into black forests.
For a time, giant pandas faced the crisis of no bamboo to eat. Some giant pandas were sick because of hunger, and some hungry giant pandas left their high-altitude habitats to go down the mountain to find bamboo to satisfy their hunger. While Gao Huakang rescued the giant panda, he also recorded a moment of Zhang Zhengui with his camera.
One of the photos was taken of Li Wuke, an employee of Baoxing Fengtongzhai Nature Reserve, feeding two wild panda cubs at home. Li Wuke sat on a small bench with a bottle in his hand. Two cute boys stood up and grabbed his leg with their claws, vying for milk to drink. One of these two panda cubs became the famous "Panpan".
Gao Huakang also recorded a wonderful agreement between Li Tingzhong, a 68-year-old villager from Dongsheng Village, Wulong Township, Baoxing, and the giant panda.
In 2009, Li Tingzhong found a wild giant panda in his pigsty. At that time, it was winter and there was a lack of food on the mountain. The giant panda who came to Li Tingzhong’s house ate a piece of leftover pig shoulder blades with relish.
That year, Li Tingzhong’s family had just killed the pig. Pork was the new year’s goods prepared by the whole family for the Chinese New Year. Although he was not rich, he still generously offered pork and pig bones to the panda. The hungry panda ate more than ten kilograms of pork ribs in one breath.
"Panda is a national treasure. I’ll give it whatever it likes." Simple Li Tingzhong said. In the next few years, this giant panda will come to their home almost every winter.
Now, Gao Huakang, the "royal" photographer of the giant panda, has retired from his job, but he decided to continue walking in the mountains. "I fell in love with this forest. Even if I retire, my figure is still in the mountains. Since I have stepped into this woodland, I will continue to walk here in the future. " Gao Huakang said.
