Three ways to identify true and false journalists
Mode 1: Internet inquiry.
On the homepage of China Journalists’ Network (http://press.gapp.gov.cn), there is a column for inquiring about journalists’ ID cards. You can inquire by entering the company name, journalist name and verification code in the dialog box. If valid information is entered, detailed information such as the company, name, photo, gender, uniform number, journalist’s ID card and annual inspection label will be displayed, indicating that the person inquired is a journalist. If an invalid certificate is queried, the words "What you want to query is not found …" will be displayed, indicating that the person queried is not a reporter.
Method 2: SMS inquiry.
The national mobile phone users edit the short message "CXXM reporter’s name # company name" and send it to 10660840. If they can receive the basic information of the journalist’s card including the reporter’s name, gender, company, unified number and status, they are real journalists.
Mode 3: Telephone inquiry.
Grassroots people can also directly call the press card issuing office of the news and periodicals department of the General Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television for enquiries. The enquiry telephone number is 010-83138953, and the staff will inform them after the enquiry.
Distinguish between true and false newspapers and periodicals
There is a media query column on the homepage of China reporter website (http://press.gapp.gov.cn). Enter the media name or media serial number in the dialog box, and select the corresponding media category, query method and verification code to query. If it is a legal newspaper, it will display the newspaper serial number, the competent organizer and other detailed information. If it is an illegal newspaper, the words "What you want to inquire about is not found …" will be displayed.
